memorial day

It's tradition as Land would say. Visit the cemeteries, cover the sacred sites with flowers, feed our hearts and bellies, visit with cousins and aunties and uncles. I look forward to it every year... just a little dizzying including my mother's grave in the tradition.

Oh, I miss Memorial Day in Utah. I wish I was there to show my boys the tree at the Coalville cemetery that always had a branch to climb and a bird nest with eggs to investigate. All the lilac in full bloom and the American flags on the veterans graves. I miss doing those things, but they were always done with Mom. It would be hard for me with her on the receiving end now. Did you clear her grave of plastic flowers? She always said she would haunt whoever put them on her grave.

I'm so happy you posted pics. I always want to be home for Memorial Day--even more than Christmas. It's so nice to spend the day with family and think about where we come from. I think I would be all tears though since Aunt Saundra was always the one to coordinate flowers and such. I miss her.

Yes, I should think so. I'm so sorry that she isn't alive with you to carry out this tradition. But I'm very grateful that you HAVE such a beautiful and honorable tradition, and that the children are included in it. Growing up with that awareness and respect will be a blessing in their lives. God bless all of you.
